For our first music lesson with the Friday class, we listened to a selection of songs from different musical genres and discussed them. While they were a little hesitant to participate at first, it soon became clear that the kids held a wide range of opinions and preferences when it came to music. Through their untrained – and relatively uninfluenced – ears, Dvoràk's Symphony Number 9 was "Batman music", Glenn Miller's jazzy "In the Mood" belonged in the lobby of a fancy hotel, and Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger" was an action-packed theme.
