As we approach the end of our project, I am realizing that our semester teaching classes at USES is a lot shorter than I originally anticipated. Six weeks sounds like a lot of time, but when we only spend one hour per week actually teaching them, the time goes by very quickly.

After our first lesson of the semester for direct service with USES, I’m already starting to see how we’ve progressed from last semester.
The past week of classes brought a surprise—our days were switched so that instead of teaching the younger children, my group was teaching the older students. At first, we were extremely nervous, partly because we were thrown off (we had just found out about the change the day of our class) and partly because we had had no previous experience with the older group and were, therefore, not sure how to handle them. Upon reflection, however, I realize that perhaps we were teaching the wrong groups the whole time.
Although we have only worked with our group twice, I have already learned a lot about more effective ways to work with them, at least in terms of dance.
