About us
Roxbury Rocks! is a student-run service project founded in fall 2015 by Tallie Hausser, an incoming Northeastern University freshman in the University Scholars Program. Comprised this year of 7 University Scholars – four of which are first-years –, RR! is both a research project and a community service undertaking, whose aim is expose children of all backgrounds to music and dance education.
Our first endeavor was a 6-week partnership with United South End Settlements’ After School Program in October and November of 2015. Our time there was spent testing curriculum ideas, improving teaching methods, and drawing up our long-term goals for the project. This 6-week stint was a success, and allowed us to continue serving with USES in 2016. As Roxbury Rocks! enters its second year of service, the team looks to find new ways to enrich the lives of children through exposure to the arts. |
Beyond direct service, each of our team members has been working diligently on individual research endeavors which we will combine with our direct service to gain a better understanding of arts education in Boston. Last year, this research served as the basis for our presentation at the Scholars’ Symposium in late spring of 2016.
Finally, we are working on expanding our community outreach to other groups in our area. Stay tuned... |
